Knowledge Packs

Across DFW, some communities, unfortunately, do not have the same opportunities as other communities nearby. These communities have what we call “opportunity gaps”, especially literacy gaps, which disadvantage the communities in terms of learning in institutions like schools. This can affect negatively the communities’ children’s intellectual and social development and may cause them to miss out on many new opportunities in their lifetimes.

With my initiative, called the Bridge the Gaps For Communities Initiative, I aim to help close these gaps and provide opportunities for the children in these disadvantaged neighborhoods and enable them the power to learn unobstructed from any circumstance and learn like any other kid would, regardless of circumstance. I was blessed with wonderful opportunities to learn unobstructed and undisturbed in school and beyond, and I want to give back to my community these same opportunities that I was blessed with so that everyone can have a chance to learn the best they can.

This project will be a summer project where I will donate over 80 “knowledge-packs” to children attending a school within a DFW neighborhood, enabling them a chance to have fun learning new concepts over the summer and facilitate learning to get ready for the new school year. I chose the summer primarily to deliver this project because every summer, more fortunate children increase their learning and reading capabilities every month, while every summer, more disadvantaged children will lose over two months of learning, which can factor exponentially into literacy issues and delays. I want to prevent this from happening by handing these materials to disadvantaged children to encourage them to learn to read and read to learn.

The knowledge-packs will be backpacks with school supplies like notebooks, pencils, Crayola, glue sticks, scissors, and other related school supplies. The backpacks, however, will primarily contain English, bilingual literacy and mathematics workbooks that are geared towards facilitating key concepts within the children and keeping up their learning habits within the summer and beyond. This will not be possible without y’all’s help, however. To make this project possible, we need your generous donation to make buying the materials for assembling the knowledge-packs possible and make sure that these children gain the opportunities that they deserve. All funds will be used for purchasing the contents that go in ‘Knowledge Packs’ for the school children in the select DFW community.
